Background:

Lena Theiler has been part of the project team since the beginning of the tdAcademy project. Since 2016 she has been working at the ISOE - Institute for Social-Ecological Research, focusing mainly on the societal and scientific effects of transdisciplinary research. In recent years, as part of her doctorate at the University of Hamburg, she has also worked on science communication about sustainability problems from a sociological perspective.

What do you find interesting about transdisciplinary research?

"What I find particularly exciting at the moment is the question of how transdisciplinary research practices affect the self-image and work of scientists. Our research shows that transdisciplinary research strengthens a critical and reflexive attitude among researchers.'

What is your role in the tdAcademy project and what do you find exciting about it?

"In the second phase, the ISOE and the ZTG will work together on synergies and trade-offs that can arise between societal and scientific effects. It is often a great challenge for scientists to strive for societal effects and to be successful within the logic of the scientific system. We are investigating which strategies can be used to meet this challenge.'
