With its overarching theme – “Towards a Sustainable Transformation – Climate, Energy and Nature in a Changing World” – the 8th Potsdam Summer School will in 2022 continue the transdisciplinary and interactive series of events that has been held annually in Potsdam, Germany since 2014. Humankind is facing a huge challenge: Climate change threatens the foundations of life on our planet. To preserve these foundations, the fossil era must come to an end. This will lead to profound changes in our ways of producing goods, our means of transportation, and ultimately the way in which we live. We are at the beginning of a great transformation, which can bring benefits as well as new inequalities. It is important to shape this in a just and sustainable manner, while protecting the environment and thereby securing future life for people in all regions around the globe.
After a pandemic break, the Td Summer School is back! The Td Summer School 2022 will be conducted between September 4-9 in Vienna, Austria. It offers a 5-day intensive training on transdisciplinary research that prepares researchers, educators, science managers, funders and research-oriented activists, artists, and representatives of the economic and administrative sector for transdisciplinary research on societal challenges.
August.
We live in a world in transformation in which we are faced with complex global problems such as climate change, loss of biodiversity, hunger and social inequality. The urgent need for a sustainable transformation forces us to take decisions in situations of uncertainty and to continuously adapt our societal strategies.
In the summer school we want to convey the basics of co-designing solutions, co-producing knowledge and co-evaluating the results of such research practice to Master and PhD students from technologically-oriented disciplines (e.g. engineering, planning, environmental studies) as well as from other fields (e.g. social sciences).
This 1.5 week summer school will be all about collaboration and co-designing. A focus will be on tropical coastal settings as examples of urgent sustainability challenges and complex social-ecological systems.
